Holster & Cartidge Belt ?
« on: August 17, 2004, 03:53:57 PM »
Howd'y all:
I don't shoot Cowboy but I have a 7.5" SBH and need a Rig for hunting.
I like the looks of a Cowboy Rig. so that is what I would like to have.
My problem is I can't put out $200-300 for a belt and holster.
Any suggestions for about $125-150 that isn't junk.
Also if I wanted to try Cowboy Action Shooting could I use my SBH, if so what else do I need. I also have an 1858 .44 Pietta with an extra Cyl.
and an 1861 .44 Pietta. Both are like new and shoot great.
Thanks in advance.

There are a number of leather makers that should be able to put together a single gun rig for you for that kind of money. I'll leave it to others to make specific recommendations based on their first hand knowledge of the makers work.

You can use your SBH in cowboy action shooting. Because it has adjustable sights you would be in what is known as the modern category.

You could also use your two black powder guns and shoot in a category called Frontiersman.

Along with a pair of pistols you will need a shotgun and a rifle. The rifle has to be a lever action shooting a pistol caliber round. The shotun can be a side by side double or an older style pump shotgun with an external hammer.

If you know of a CAS club near you just find out when they shoot and go. The people there will most likely let you shoot a variety of guns and may even offer to let you shoot one of their guns in the match.

It's a fun game with great people.

Howdy,

As far as a rig, look at the Territorial Leather line at www.sanpedrosaddlery.com   Big Ed is a sponsor here on GBO, and he's a great guy.  With this line, you can get one holster and a belt for about a hundred bucks.. and it's got a lifetime guarantee.

There may be other makers that offer this low cost option, but I'm not familiar with their work.  Tell Big Ed that Big Hext sent ya..

Cabelas or Bass Pro Shops should outfit you nicely in a western-style rig and do it very reasonably.

Mernickle does good work at a reasonable price.  Buy one holster now for hunting then when you start CAS you can get a matching one.
