This year the little 7400 Carbine loaded with a 220 grain Hornady bullet over 51 grains of DuPont IMR powder delivered in the MN brush.
The factors:
The rifle points and handles very well for me.
The 220 grain bullet has a sectional density of .331.
Cool and very humid, perfect for fogging items like glasses and scope lenses.
The shot was on a nervous deer which knew right where I was sitting. The scope had fogged externally and upon my first attempt to drill the deer all I got was fog. She saw me reach for the tissue and wipe the rear lens dry.
The shot:
40 yards through light brush at a deer facing me and ready to bolt. I was sitting on a fallen log, and the shot was a snap shot, taken the instant the sight picture was acquired.
The result.
The bullet penetrated the brush and hit in the right central chest just inside the rib cage/shoulder junction on the left side. It devastated the lung and ranged through the body into the large intestine. The deer rand about 20 yards and died fairly rapidly after falling down.
The deer:
Last year's doe. About 80-90 lbs gutted.
