6mm BR Rem
« on: December 20, 2004, 02:17:37 AM »
I am about to purchase a 6mm BR (Bench REst) after my gun guru friend takes a peek.  It is built on a Remington 700 BDL action, has a bench rest stock, and a completely free floated barrel (not sure of manuf., but i think its either douglas or shilen).  The owner of the shoppe i am buying it from says if it does not shoot at least .5MOA then throw it away (i'll throw it at him if it doesn't   )

The gun is used, but the barrel is new.  It was originally a 6mm Remington and when the new barrel was fitted, the bolt was remapped to the new barrels' chamber.  The trigger is too light for me (4oz), but then again i've never owned a bench rest gun.

Anyway, any comments, questions, or concerns regarding this gun?

Lots to know about a Benchrest gun..Will you need to neck turn the brass to fit ?? is it stamped with the neck demensions on the barrel..ie. .270 = no turn, .264 = modest turn,..262 or less is really tough on the brass...You will need neck turning tools.. Special dies, brass...lots of neat stuff $$$ ..What comes with this rig ?? & how much money are we talking...Scope sighted?? If so how good a scope.. Don't jump unless you want the whole deal..it won't be cheap..I'm building one right now from an ADL rem 700 POS. lousy gun..So lets add it up...400 for the action , 550 for a new hart barrel fitted , action trued, trigger 100.. new stock 275....rings & mounts another 75 bucks..Leupold 6.5 X 20  500 [not really a benchrest scope but good....] 1900 bucks Plus all the waiting, add in the brass & dies you are over 2000..How good a deal are you getting ???mike in ct....you want a 6mm br on the cheap ?? build it yourself on a savage action...switch the barrel yourself..not hard & you can make some shooter for half that money & very little wait time...
