My new golf ball mortar

Here is a pic of the mortar I just finished. I modeled it after a lyle gun just scaled down a bit. the tube is 4140 and the carrage is just some maple I had laying around. the firing mech was made from scrap brass.

:D  I actually thought about making a concrete slug with an eye bolt to attach a line too. I just need to figure out a way to have the line play out smoothly and not break.

Someday I'll try something like that - with an open faced fishing reel and 20 lb test monofilament.  It might just save a lot of trips down range to pick up the golf ball.
