PT111 Dis-assembly
« on: October 26, 2005, 05:00:37 PM »
A newbie here, but wanted to jump in with a question.  I am trying to field strip my PT-111 9mm for cleaning.  The slide retracts ok and the slide disassembly latch comes out just fine.  The problem is that even after releasing the slide catch, the slide will not slide forward off of the frame.  Also, now I can't even get it back to the "neutral" position.  I've also tried holding in the trigger while sliding forward, but it's still a no-go.  May be tough to diagnose with words, but would certainly appreciate any help anyone can provide.  I want to get to the range tomorrow and this is driving me nuts!  Right now it's inop.  Thanks in advance -- NN

Sorry to be so late to try and answer this, but seems these are hard to disassemble sometimes. Go to the Taurus website and look at the manual for the PT111 (assume that you don't have one). It actually shows what to do if it gets stuck like you are describing. Tried to copy that part, but it is a PDF file and w'ont let me copy just part. I've had the PT140 and 145 and they were good guns. Good luck. Hope you figured it out and went to the range.

Mr Greenjeans:  Thanks for the response.  I finally figured it out - needed to pull the trigger to get the slide to release forward; otherwise, it just stuck about half way off.  Also, FYI - during re-assembly, it is easier if the weapon is held upside down, so that the barrel falls into the proper positon to insert the pin.  Live & learn, I guess.  Thanks again --NN
