Model 94 AE trigger
« on: November 17, 2005, 02:08:44 PM »
I concluded a multi-gun deal that included a like new 94AE, and think it is an OK gun so far except for the trigger.  The fit and finish is better than I expected, and the action is smooth.  But there is about a quarter inch of free play in the trigger prior to it getting hard.  Then about an eight pound pull to break.  It is crisp, but hard.  It may get lighter with use, but I am bugged by all that travel before it engages.  Is there a fix for this?

Thanks in advance.  I had planned to peddle this right away, but may keep it if I can get a better trigger on it.  I have a 9422M and a Marlin 30AW that I like lots.  I really don't need another 30-30, but this 94 seems like one I could learn to like.

Keith - if your trigger doesn't smooth out after some shooting then get a gunsmith to smooth it up for you.  I have 3 of those 94Aes, one came with a trigger that felt like it was grinding rocks until I shot it a bunch, now it's a good trigger.  HTH.  Mikey.

Sorry to tell you the trigger take-up is normal and necessary on the rebounding hammer style 94s. A lower tang and hammer swap from a post 64/pre rebounder will fix it. Trigger pull can be reduced to manageable levels by simply stoning and a quick trim of four coils off the hammer spring.
Thanks to you''uns from WNC,
