I am thinking of buying a 350 in a Ruger m77.The rate of twist in the Ruger is 1 in 12.Can anyone with a 350 tell me about the pros and cons.Thanks :-)

Check with some bullet manufactures. The 1:12 twist rate may be a compromise, a little slow for the larger 250 grain bullets, but better for the lighter 158 grain bullets. One advantage of the 350 is bullet choices, you have many. However think about what you will hunt and the bullet weights you will hunt with. I bet you will find the bigger bullets are what you will want to hunt with. Therefore a faster twist may serve you better.

As far as twist rate goes 1:12" is about the fastest you are likely to find in a .35 caliber production rifle. Remington uses a 1:16"; Browning a 1:12"; and I don't know what the winchester custom shop uses.

I have a Whelen witha 1:14" that gives me groups of .75"-1.25" @ 100 yds with 200-250 grain bullets. The 1:12" twist will definitely work well for that weight range, maybe a little better.

The .350 mag is supposed to get ballistics similar to a .35 whelen. The only con I can think of is that there is only one factory load, a 200 grain PSP-CL from remington. Another possible con is that you may have to seat heavier bullets into the case to get the rounds to function thru a short action.

Have to take your word for the twist rate of the Ruger. My 1969 Remington M700 BDL has a twist rate of 1-14" and the 225 gr. Barnes TSX's I am using is giving excellent accuracy with the two loads I have worked up so far. Lawdog

Has anyone used 180 Barnes in there 350?.On the chart that bullet is inpressive. :-) Thanks for your info.

1:12 seems to be on the fast side of .35 cal rifles. Should be good for bullets in the 250 grain class.

Remington offers a 700CDL in .35 Whelen which shoots the same bullets at the same velocities as the 350 Rem Mag. That gun has a 1:16" twist. And on these forums I have seen a post or two bemoaning the 1:16" twist, and wishing the 700CDL had a 1:12" twist. So I'd say you're doing fine.
