Remington 721
« on: September 05, 2005, 06:22:59 AM »
:D Gentlemen I have a question about the 721 action. Is is basically the father of the 700 action? I just picked up a 270Win in the rifle and it's going to be the basis of a semi-custom rifle. My gunsmith is going to change it over to the 700 magazine box and drop it into a Boyd Thumbhole classic and put a muzzle break on it. I ran my mouth on another post about brakes, but I discovered my ole butt can handle much recoil. Even my 25-06 in the handi Rifle kicks my backside. Was in a serious accident many moons ago and I just don't like being jolted anymore. One to many concussion when I was a young man. Plus I know statues with better joints than I do! Besides me sticking my size 14 in my mouth over breaks what do you think of the set up. The rifle has a timney trigger, Sako extractor, will be bedded and I'm going to put a swift premier 4.5-14X42 scope on this rig. Thanks for you thoughts.

jmckinley,

I like the old Remington actions.  Got 721's, 722's and even 2 725's in the safe.  A few are in different calibers than when they left the factory.  The .35 Whelen I am building is based on a Rem. M721 .270 that I got from a friend.  Stuck a 25” Shilen Match Grade barrel on it, added a Royal Arms classic magnum walnut stock blank, a Timney trigger and a Sako extractor.  At 9 1/2 lbs. complete with scope she is a dream to shoot(sorry no brake for me).  Just a quick note about the muzzle brake idea - a C&H Research mercury recoil reducer will make the felt recoil of a .270 more like that of a mild .243.  Anyway I like the older 721 actions and buy everyone I can find.  They make great actions for custom jobs.  Lawdog
