OLD Remington 1100. Choke Help, Please ??

Ok, here's the "skinny".    I SCREWED UP !  :)

I shoot LH and a buddy of mine came across a LH Rem 1100 12 ga.  He told me to take it home and shoot it, see if I liked it, and then make him an offer on it.  I really didn't even want the darn thing, but I thought "what the heck".  It is LH, right?

I shot it 3 times while at his house.  Well.....  I walked out in my backyard to shoot some clays a bit ago, and the first shot "blew" the "poly choke" off of it.   At least that's what my buddy called it.  Waist high grass across the fence, and no idea how far it might/could have went.  

I have no idea how old this gun is.  The choke can be dialed from improved, modified, full, x-tra full, slug, etc......  It screws on externally.


Does anyone know what this choke is actually called, and where I might find another to replace it.   Now all I have is a bare "threaded" barrell end!

Any help/advice is greatly appreciated.............   Derek.

PolyChoke is the correct name. I think Lyman owns them now. Check on the Lyman site as a starting point or just google PolyChoke

Do a Google serach for "PolyChoke."

I saw their website on ShotgunWorld.com some time ago.

PolyChoke still exists.



I'm a lefty, BTW, and a left-handed M1100 is a nice shotgun if its been maintained.  Just make sure the O-ring inside the barrel at the end of the magazine tube is in good shape and gives a good seal.  I owned a LH M1100 Mag in college, which was a really nice field gun.

Sorry to hear about the mishap but how pray tell did the polychoke "blow itself" off? I'd think a bit o' investigation is in order to make sure that it was not an obstruction or such that caused the problem. I'd be more than a little concerned if any firearm I was shooting started to "shed" pieces since that is often a harbinger of worse things that could come.

If you purchased the gun already a couple o' options to consider
1) Depending on how long the barrel is, have a smith cut it back to get rid of the mount and have it threaded so you can use some nice screw choke tubes installed (IMO, much cleaner and aesthetics are improved)
2) Get an aftermarket barrel with screw in choke tubes.
3) Have the gun thoroughly checked over to make sure it is in good working order before shooting it again.
