My dad found this in the woods near a lake on a large naval base here in Indiana. Does anyone have any idea on what it might be? It is fairly light not as heavy as a rock this side would be, maybe it's flint? A magnet will not draw to it so it's doesn't seem to be metal. He hasn't tried cleaning it up to see what happens. There is a hole on one end that goes very deep into it. The first thing that came to my mind was either a handle of some sort like an old sickle handle or maybe a thing used to put a stick into so as to start a fire. Any ideas everyone?

is it just me or does it appear to have text of some kind on its side in the first pic?

My guess is that it is a hollowed out rock of some sort used in conjuntion with a straight stick and bow to make fire similar to the rubbing two sticks together method. You've not doubt seen this method used to make fires.

Maybe so but I am having a hard time seeing it. Where do you see it at and what does it look like?

Looks like a fire piston to me, if you are not familiar with it, do a computer search on it. I despise Google anymore.

Wow I had no idea they were anti-gun. This has changed my views of them. I always put the Google tool bar on every computer I build for customers so now I am gonna have to rethink this. I will not support any anti-gun organization in any way.

I boycott as many anti gun companies and associations as possible. If I know who they are, i will not use their services.
This is not as easy as it sounds in a small town, but a fella can try.
