Handcannon in 304 stainless
« on: August 07, 2005, 03:02:49 PM »
I haven't put it on a stick yet, but here it is.

1-1/4 x 8 stock with 0.637 bore x 6" deep.  The two bullets are a Lyman 20 ga slug (a bit undersized) and a mirror image solid from a home made mould 0.625" in diameter.

Looking for a 1-1/4" walking stick to have a stainless top piece applied.

Thanks.  You know we're waiting for the pictures of your proven craftsmanship!

This is the first time that I'd used a live center in anything since high school - and then it was wood.

The 304 turns and polishes well, but this one I didn't put a whole lot of extra in since in's and out's of turning stainless.  If my observation is correct, it surprized me that even with coolant flow the material heated up (more than with 1144SP) when drilling it.  With 1144sp or 4140 most of the heat ends up in the chips.

Here you go. I was going to wait untill it was polished. It is 10.5" long. Machined out of 1.25" bronze shaft and bored 50 caliber.  I also added a powder cup so you could use just a linstock instead of fuse. Later,

Nice touches - that will look absolutely beautiful when shined up!

I like the individual things that make it unique (but still a replica).

You should sell a few of these!  Let some of us common folk have an opportunity to own such craftsmanship!
