Small radius cutter
« on: July 30, 2005, 02:25:37 PM »
I spent some time of recent making tooling.

Since I did the 5+ inch radius cutter, I chose to modifiy it by making another tool-holding arm to do about 1" diameter jobs.

First two pix are of the cutter on my first try - using 304 stainless.
Last picture is the result.

CW,    Make that tube much smaller and you will have a holder for your wedding ring.  You'll be the only one in town with a Mortar that has a gold muzzle band.

Hmmmmm - have to be .25 or .30 caliber.

Well, a little progress.

[/url]

Both are 304 stainless.

The left one is .50 cal. with a cast ball in front.

The right one is about .30 - .32 cal with a #0 or #00 buckshot.

Both started with 7/8 diameter stock.

The trunion is brazed on.  Not something I'd do on a mortar that would be used for real.

THE REAL advantage of doing these two is to figure out the process steps and the fixturing needed to locate accurately for each operation.  After the third one or so, the process is much easier.
