Wow, I've been looking for this site for years.

It's, It's all artillery. My name is Kap, I'm a machinist and been building cannon and steam engines and trains since, well forever.

I live in the East, so don't get many opportunitys to shoot.

The police usually come around pretty quick when me and
my little brother get going. There's too many yuppies around!

The park rangers are a special pia. One place I shoot in is private property surrounded by a state park.

We used to shoot on CHRISTmas day after lunch. This ranger comes around REALLY pissed because he had to find where the b*mbs are going off.

He got complaints and as he said, "they weren't from nearby either".
Hee! Hee!

Here's a 1/3 scale Parrott I did for an army officer in Texas about ten years ago.

Welcome to the board. You're certainly among friends here.

That's a really nice looking piece. Tell us more about it...barrel length, bore diameter, etc.

Thanks for posting the pix! This forum started when Graybeard let us try it out to see if it would go - about 2-1/2 years ago. It has been a genuine pleasure seeing people get hooked (aaahhh ... ) and enjoy the finer pleasures of large bore black powder.

You'll find quite a range of folks - experience - age - and so forth.

I enjoy most the pictures of people & action, but my focus at the moment is machining and design.

Cav trooper,

The customer supplied the rough cast iron barrel.
I donÂ’t remember the exact dimensions now.

I finished the outside of the barrel, machined the trunnions,
and built the carriage complete. Yea, I know the wheels should
be set at 5 degrees, but it was a budget and rush job.

I donÂ’t know whether he intended to shoot it or not?

HereÂ’s another built to shoot dog food cans filled with cement.
This guy liked to fire at 5 degrees from vertical. He timed shots to calculate the height.

While test firing (proofing ssssssh), the wind high up sent the can back at us.
We had to run for it that day. Live and learn.

Have fun this weekend. IÂ’m helping a friend move a Bridgeport mill, and Lablond lathe.
ItÂ’s gonna be a hot one here.

Hey Kap, I use an ol leblond lathe. Made in 1935. She still gets the job done. What do you shoot? Nice looking job on that mortar! did you make all the hardware? I'm building a mortar for a guy now and have to make some square headed lag bolts, so it'll look right.
