I saw these in the muzzle loading isle at Wal Mart, can I use them in cartridges? What about the admonition of no airspace? Or do I just drop'em in then crush'em?

Pyro has slightly different burn charactoristics. A number of shooters use them in cases with no problems. But they are a danged expensive way to shoot! :eek:

Would you consider them to be a good way for some one that is just curious to give Frontier Cartridge a try without having to get too entailed with Black Powder loading?

I sure would! They'd give you a good feel for what the Darkside is like, with minimum hassle in loading. Give em try, but remember the cost! (which is multifaceted! you'll git hooked and have to try all kinda stuff jist ta see how much fun itr is! :-D )

Ranger, I haven't used a bp sub since my first walker colt back in the late 70's but I would treat it the same till some one showed me different.

Yes you still have to clean em like the real deal! Most of the substitue powders out there are just as, if not more, hygroscopic as the real deal.

Got my first taste of fire and smoke from a cartrdige revolver (BH) with pyrodex pellets. These were also my intro to C&B before I invested in a powder flask and other assorted C&B needs.

Loaded the pellets into a 45 Colt case and crimped in a 200gr lead RNFP bullet (only ones in "inventory" at the time). They definitely affected my opinion of revolver shooting. I am now doing my research on a BP/Sub load for deer hunting this season with a 7-1/2" Ruger BH. Since my "normal" shot opportunities are 60 yards or less, I may store the HOT smokeless rounds in favor of the fireworks and smoke display of BP. Working on my quick-draw so I can take the close shots from the hip too.........just joking!

In the end, Pyrodex Pellets are a great starting point to taste the smoke before investing in the extras to load BP.

The free Hodgdon manual lists cartridge loads for the pellets. In my experience, Pyrodex was a little harder to clean up, and also quicker to cause rust, than real blackpowder. There's no denying that the pellets would be quick to load up, though.
