Well I did something this year that I never dreamed of, I arrived at Winnsboro for the Â“Southern NationalsÂ” 7 days early and camped on site in my camper with Dawg (Genphideaux) for the duration! LOL. Why in the hell you askÂ… Between the monthly match the Sunday before and the air rifle kicking off on Wednesday, there was plenty to do.

Dawg Â– Thanks for not cutting my throat in the middle of the night! I donÂ’t know that ANYONE has ever put up with me for that length of time in close quarters. Remimber, what happens in the camper, stays in the camper!

Duckgumbo Â– When Dawg and me get there David says Â“Look you 2 SOBÂ’s, IÂ’m not here to entertain you two for the weekÂ”. He was up our ass from that point forward. LOL. I did not even get on of the damned prisoner tee shirts!

Slowstdy- (A.K.A. Â“LimeyÂ”) What a treat it was to hear him say Â“Pip Pip cherry hoÂ” Oh my after about 8 beers that will make you laugh your ass off. I donÂ’t care who you are, thatÂ’s funny right there. Seriously Dave is a super guy, I hope the ride hope was not too brutal!!! By the way, this guy took to coon ass cooking like no other Yankee I have ever seen!!

HornetX60 Â– Was a blast. DonÂ’t know what to say w/o starting a fire. Better luck next year and IÂ’ll leave it at that. Thanks for the spotting and advice earlier in the week.

Varn1808 Â– Thanks for not showing up and keeping Bill under control, the show was too much at timesÂ…

Shootnchef Â– Chad I am writing this JUST for you in MS word and utilizing a higher level of spell check! Man everyone a critic! Here his sister tells me in FL this year that the most critical mistake in my shooting technique is when I arrive at the firing line and asks, Â“Have you thought of taking up a new hobby?Â” , and he critiques me for poor spelling and grammar! Painful.

Ajj Â– Sorry I did not spot you into a 40 this year, you deserve a medal for having to shoot with me for a solid 2 days! Hope it did not rub off.

Scorlett Â– Good to see you again. Thanks again for the intro to the Â“target rifleÂ” class in TX earlier this year, my wife will really love me when I drop that dime..LOL

Dave Imas Â– Good to see you again. Man keep your group under control! Thanks for the shooting advice but I donÂ’t think I will have any problems after I get the dot to STOP on a spot..LOL I want help getting there!

Dennis (Dr. D) Â– Was a pleasure to see you again as well. Hope you guys had a good time at the shoot, seriously debating coming up your way next year.

Fivepigs Â– Seriously, The fart machine was a great idea, I wish I had had more time to watch the show. Have you had that since middle school? Where can I get one?. You guys need a hobby..LOL

Lucho Â– Thanks for the spot on the shoot off. HummÂ…Scope or pocketknifeÂ…LOL. Where do I mail your Â“cutÂ” of the loot?

IÂ’m sure I left some others out, not on purpose. Good to see everyone , canÂ’t wait to see you again!

Chicken, from what IÂ’ve been told, you will be getting your very own Orange Tee, just a matter of time. LOL. Man I had a ball. I may only be $6.00 better off in my pocket from meeting you Chicken, but a million $ better off in my hart. Thanks to every one for making my first visit to the south such a blast. Friends are real hard to find, I think I have found a bunch of new ones. I will post more later. Cheers Limey

Winnsboro is like a big family reunion, but without the obnoxious relatives. David and Jerry and all the support staff go way above what you could expect to put on a first class shoot. If you haven't ever gone and you are a silhouette shooter you don't know what your're missing. Thanks again guys for a great "Battle on the Bayou". Just one question? Does it ever get cold enough to use a "Heater Buddy" in Louisanna? Needless to say I wasn't even tempted to fire up the one I won this year while down there.

And just a word about the folks in Winnsboro and surrounding communities. Purely hospitable. Friendly, helpful, and a pleasure to do business with.

John... Sorry I left your name off the list...Tell Jim my address so he can send me my cut of the Premier spotting scope vs the red dot trade.. Close one I will give him that.. But $750 vs $100 ...Hummm..Well not so close...(one of the guys from Ft. Smith was drawn like 3rd in the special drawing and had 1st chose a red dot scope and left the premier reticles spotting scope coupon on the table..I was like what in the world are you doing, you didn't wnt the spotting scope from premier? He made fast tracks back up to the stand and exchanged!)

Tell him an even $200 check will put us square!

Actually Jim is from Harrison, he's James and Elizabeth's son, so not actually from our club. No self respecting River Range Rat would leave that much money on the table. I agree he owes you a couple....but you probably won't get it. Good bunch of folks but you gotta watch them. I bought chips and dip to go with the ham sandwitches Elizabeth (B class Hunter rifle champ and winner of the Leupold 6.5X20) had made. Stopped at Wally World and the bill was 15.01. Melvin gave me the penny and we all ate the chips. Now they are all considering themselves vested in the Benchrest that I won in the special receipt drawing. James worked out a schedule for the use of the rest and I wasn't even on it.......

It was great seeing you and everyone else. The remote control fart machine was a good idea, but I can't take credit. Someone else (from Texas, of course) brought it. I'll give you three guesses who and the first two don't count. I first experienced it two years ago at Zwolle. I was the "butt" of the joke, that time.

i have to speak my piece on this one...
i've been shooting this game for about 23 years and been getting my butt kicked at all the major matches all over the country for the entire time. i'm very sorry to say that this is the first year i've been able to shoot the Southern Nationals. It wasn't just a rifle match... it was an Event. The only competition that i've attended that came anywhere close to this was the Highpower Nationals in Ridgway in 1987. Without question the Southern Nationals is without peer for a happening in our game. The hospitality was overwhelming, the range was the best I've shot at, the organization and participation was incredible, and the people, as usual were wonderful. We were treated so well i felt like i had been invited to David's home. If you've yet to attend you owe it to yourself to make the trip.

Not intending to change the subject or focus from the Southern Nationals, but everyone needs to put the Mid South Classic down in Benton Arkansas in September on their calendar. Naturally Rank Frank, Chicken George, AJJ and the bad boys from Benton put on a classy shoot on a great range, not to mention that it's the third leg of the Southern Trifecta. Heard Chicken George was going to pull his camper down early, so there is sure to be a handy beer supply. Shoots like the Southern Nationals and the Mid South Classic give us enough lies to tell for a whole year, not to mention the great study on human behavior that takes place when you mix the characters in our group encounter an unlimited beer supply....You know, it's been a long time since I saw someone drink beer out of a plastic gallon jug......
