Somewhere along the line on my own website, we got talking about our hunting knives... I posted pictures of what I have and use most, but there is one knife that I included that I have had since I was a small boy... It is the knife on the right in the bottom picture. Could anyone tell me what it is... It looks like the "combat" knives you see in the knife catalogs... but is very old... Thanks Dave

Dave, I don't think the whole picture(s) got through. All I'm seeing is the Wyoming Knife and two thirds of the 3 knives next to it;none of which look old or combat.

They look fine here, but they are so big (I don't know how to make them look smaller) that you have to tab both down and sideways using those little arrows to see everything...

Dave, You're knife(had ta run your post through my composer before I could see it) is most likely an EGW #2 made for the U.S. Navy during WWII. EGW was E.G. Waterman & Co of New York City, and they made several versions of that "bottle opener" blade. Most, but I don't think all, also came with a sawback on the blade. The #2 had a grooved wooden handle, The #3 had grooved leather. All came with a 7/8" lanyard ring on the butt. EGW also sold them commercially during the war, so minor variations are everywhere. Go to http://www.grunt.com/collectingusnavyfightingknives.htm for more info or maybe you can ask him more. The steel in your blade, by the way, is almost undoubtedly 1095 High Carbon. It was the U.S. Military's proscribed steel for nearly 100 years.

Thanks! Listen, it will take me a while because I am fixin' dinner tonight, but I will look and see what markings it has and will let you know. My wife has a meeting this evening, so I'm fixin' deer loin, baked taters and cream corn... :lol:
