BLR in 7-08 what's it worth?
« on: April 27, 2005, 07:11:55 PM »
Local dealer has a 7-08 BLR, looks like about 80-90%, action works smooth, and has Luepold 2x7x33 scope on it, not sure what model.

He is asking $575 is this too high or about right?  How can I tell how old it is and whether or not it is a steel receiver (magnet?).

If you check Gun List or Gunsamerica, you'll see that the $575 is about average for really decent BLR, especially with decent scope.

$575 is too high, even with the Leupold scope.  $450-475 would be the highest I would go for the gun.  I guess it really depends on how bad you want the gun, though.  The 2-7 Leupold is a pretty good scope, and I have one on my Ruger No. 1-A 7x57.  But you can get them for around $185 new, so used you can expect around $135-145.

I do like the BLR rifles.  I have an original Belgium made BLR in .308, and I used it to take a couple deer last fall.

$575 is more like a price for a true  Belgian Browning in new condition.  For Japanese or Portuguese made, I'd expect a good bit less on the selling price.  I got mine 3 years ago for $275, and it's like new.  If it's been sitting on the shop's rack for a while, there's a reason, and the $$$ sounds like a good one.
