Winchester Model 70 Featherweight SS
« on: April 15, 2005, 07:55:11 PM »
Winchester introduced it Feather weight in Stainless this year.  I kind of likes the look of it and was considering buying one in .243.  I don't know much about the new Mouser action Winchester is putting out.  I would like to ask few questions about Winchester:

1.Are the feather weights capable of good accuracy? Sub MOA?

2Would I be able to put 2 or three shots down range accurately without worrying about heat affecting my accuracy?

3.  How are thes new actions mechanically?  Dependable, strong?

Any thing will help.  I appreciate all of your input.

I wish they made the standard model in SS and .243 win.

Maybe next year

Hi 1longshot,

A friend of mine has a Winchester 70 Featherweight in .308, it's Oh about 10 years old now, blued and walnut but it shoots very well. If you continue to fire quickly, yes it will move POI some. He does not hunt and only uses it on the range. Thinks nothing of shooting 20 shots one after the other and OK it won't do MOA under these circumstances but it's certainly not inaccurate.

If they have changed the way they make them I cannot comment on, but this Win Featherweigh impressed me, it really did. I have shot it and it's lively from a prone postion using 150 Grn Federal American eagle cartridges.

I got a FWT in 300wsm and was a pretty lousy shooter.  I just used it as a host action on a custom project 300wsm.  It now has a McMillian stock and Broughton 5c barrel.

That "new Mauser" action is a close copy of the Pre-64 model, which is considered the most rugged and reliable ever.

I don't know if it uses the same action as my Super Shadow 270 WSM, but mine is very accurate and feeds the short round with no problems........... :-)
