I recently obtained a winchester Mod.54 in .270 W Mfg.1927 with British proofmarks the rear sight is a peep mounted on the cocking piece, the rifle unfortunatly[for collecting] been drilled and tapped for a scope but the neccesity is to have to mount it high because of the safety and bolt handle the bolt body appears to have been changed at some point as it does not match the cut in the stock, it appears to be similar to a Springfield 03 bolt handle on a 54 bolt but has not been welded or silver soldered on . All the pictures i've seen of 54's the bolts are different with more of a pear shaped knob. The bolt is numbered to the rifle and has the British proof also. The bolt shroud and safety are all original 54 items. It seems to be a good shooter but the sight while handy as a back up and well made is not real great for long shots because of its unique and not solidly mounted position on the bolt.does any body have any ideas or info on such a rifle as this?/who made the sight?/Will a springfield "o3" low scope safety fit?where can I get an original bolt?It is a beautiful gun and shoots fair.shootrj2003
