Moving from VA to PA
« on: March 16, 2005, 03:59:39 AM »
Hi all,

I am moving the critter killing shop from SW Virginia to the Harrisburg, PA area.  Can anyone suggest good ranges (state or private) in the area?  Also, how is the quality of varmint and big game hunting.

With the population of PA i bet deer hunting is a real warzone on public land...

thanks in advance for all comments

Contact the PA game commission, they could direct you to state game lands in the Harrisburg area.  Many game lands have public rifle ranges.

I lived in Liqonier for a couple of years, and yes the public woods look like a pumpkin patch come deer season.  Had a 100 yd public range within 5 min of my house.  Game lands #42.

I moved from PA to VA in July.

The PA game commission website is a good source for hunting info.
www.pgc.state.pa.us

Public land during deer season is crowded but it is easier to find (in my experience) private land to hunt on in PA than VA.  The seasons aren't as long and the bag limits aren't as generous.

I promise you that you will not miss paying tax on your vehicle.

Thanks folks.

Yeah, car tax sucks!

I have some ops for bowhunting near Lancaster on private land.  I guess that's the way to go...

Thanks all for the resources and opinions.  more are always appreciated!

For a shooting range I would suggest Harrisburg Hunters and Anglers...there is a State Game Land range in Cumberland County that has 100,200, and 300 yrd ranges.  I moved from  Harisburg out near Philly....I have access to farms in northern dauphin county.  If you want to meet up email me at aubienittany@yahoo.com

You are going to love the woodchuck hunting here and I hear that the Coyotes are plentiful on the east shore of the Lower Susquehanna. Welcome to Pennsylvania! The White Tail has really been thinned out with an either sex hunt for a couple of years. The Game Commision is pretty responsive to herd population so the numbers will change. Lots of good hunting here Brother!!
