New grip for my 1911
« on: February 09, 2003, 03:11:24 PM »
I just got a new grip for my 1911 that I absolutely love... I saw it in Shooters catalog (www.sportsmansguide.com) It's made by Pachmayr and has rosewood and a finger-grove rubber grip. It totally changes the "feel" and for me, makes the 1911 MUCH more controlable... Just thought I would mention it since I like it so much... Dave (IronKnees)

That was the best part... $19.97 plus S&H, which they say is down from $35.00... I could not resist. It not only looks great, but trust me, with my short fingers, it made all the difference in the world. Funny thing... I am a really good size guy, but my fingers are impossibly short... I play acoustic guitar,  :music: and my fingers are so short that some cords are either PAINFUL as all get out, or darn near impossible for me. Same with some handguns. I just don't get the grip I need. This is part of the reason I like the .41 magnum better than the .44 magnum, because I can't control the .44 as well...

Dave:  if your fingers are short and you find that you are not all that comfortable with that long trigger on that Colt, shave down the trigger face until you have taken some off and the knurling or grooves are gone.  Don't forget to smooth down the edges, especially the right hand edge if you are right handed.  I had to do this with some long target triggers I installed on my 1911s and it made an incredible difference.  Now, the face on both those triggers is about that of a SAA - smooth, shorter and contoured properly to my grip.  This is Mikey and I hope this helps.
