Savage Model 114W

Does anyone have any information regarding this rifle. I purchased one on sale from Gander Mountain recently in 270 Win., but, I can't find any information regarding this gun. I checked the Savage Arms web site and find a Model 114U which has a black tipped Walnut stock  The stock on this gun does not have a black tip so I am a little lost. I even looked at their 2004 catalog online and it doesn't list it neither. It has the AccuTrigger and Walnut stock with cut checkering. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Strano,

From the info you mentioned, I would suspect that it is an older model that is now equipped with the Accutrigger. Savage used to offer a 114 model which was the base action but with a walnut stock and dark forend cap, I think it was discontinued in 2003 when all of the models were being changed to the Accutrigger. The 114 was one of the last models to receive the Accutrigger and seems to have recently reappeared in their lineup. Other than cosmetics, mainly on the stock, it should not be any different than the other Savage rifles offered. You should find your 114 to be a real shooter.

Safe shooting.

The 14/114W models were a special order from a large dirstributor.  Basically, they were a Model 11GNS (wood stock, no sights) that featured a special Turkish Walnut stock.  Price was low on these (typically sold for between $300 and $350) as they were made using leftover non-AccuTrigger actions and components in early 2004 after Savage made the move to put AccuTriggers on their entire centerfire line.
