I purchased a Western Auto brand Mossberg 800 today. Ugly safety, lightweight, pressed checkering. Anyone have any experience with one of these? Any comments pro or con?  Thanks

Yes i have one in 30-06 and its quite a gun and i wish they never stopped making them.  Mine with my reloads will shoot nickel sized groups all day long at 100yds.  I had trouble with accuracy years ago with it with bought over the counter ammo  "remington" mainly because it wouldn't group tight with this ammo even after the barrel was broken in.  As soon as I started reloading the accuracy became better and its been great since '72 when i purchased it yes its been that long.  With the ammo made today it just may shoot ok I would try it.  I like the safety on the bolt too, while the gun is a tad heavy it sure shoots good and as good as any new rifle today and maybe tighter groups for sure.  I think you'll be happy with it. While she'll never win a bueaty contest she sure will shoot good!!!!   The bueaty is on the inside where it counts!!!!

I will never part with my '06 western auto/mossberg its one of my favorites.  Yours is the second one that i have heard of, there was one for sale somewhere on the net.  If i ever see a cheap one at a gun show its comming home with me they did make these in the magnum calibers too.
