What's a 17" .45 Colt good for?
Just about everything except longrange varmints.
A 17" barrel is only 3/4" longer than a Super 16, makes a nice pistol due to the .45 bore lightens the barrel weight. A big heavy .45 pistol bullet is one of the favorites in the revolver hunting groups. And then you can do like I do and put the barrel on a receiver with folding stock and makes a handy portable carbine for deer hunting from a climbing stand in the woods of Tennessee where ranges seldom exceed 75 yards.
The .45 Colt is considered by some to be the ULTIMATE WHISPER round by some, see the section on caliber selection in
http://guns.connect.fi/gow/highpow.htmlPersonally I like the big heavy bullets fired at just under sonic speeds, easier on the ears and often has great accuracy. My favorite 45-70 BPCR load is a subsonic load.
And lastly, the Bullberry guaranteed accuracy.
Course , I agree there are other calibers that have higher velocity and less recoil that make great Contender pistol/carbine rounds, I like, own and use them too.
Aren't Contenders great.
