Complete rifle on ebay
« on: February 03, 2005, 03:30:48 PM »
Did anyone notice that a guy sold a complete Jap Arisaka 6.5 rifle on ebay.  He broke it down into the component parts, ie, barrel assembly, which was a barreled action, the bolt, stock, dust gard, etc.  The whole rifle and ebay did not catch it.  I did not get all the final prices but it looks like it went for about $300.  Someone at ebay slipped up.  Give anyone any ideas?

I see muzzleloaders there frequently with the barrel and stock listed seperately, you just have to win both auctions to put it together!! :D

It borders on ATF violations too. I would hate to pay the legal fees to prove my innocence

I shouldn't be any problem for the ATF so long as it's sent to an FFL holder.

Why skirt around Ebay's policies though?  Yeah they make no sense, but it is a private business.  You'd do better to support the true firearms auctions sites like Gunbroker, AuctionArms, and Gunsamerica.  Listing your items on those services gives them the support to keep them going.

It'd be nice if a general purpose auction site would come around that allowed people to sell firearms.

There's no ATF violation here, just a breach of eBay policies. I'm surprised this got through. I sell a lot of gun-related items on eBay, and they've called me on a few items that I didn't even know were vioative of their policies. One was an AR15 front sight tool, which was not allowed because it was "related" to what eBay deems to be an "assault weapon." Still, I continue to use eBay for most items while I go to GunBroker if something is verboten on eBay. The reason I prefer eBay generally is simple--I ALWAYS get higher sales prices there, presumably due to heavier trafffic on their site.
