SCOPE & MOUNT RECOMMEMDATIONS
« on: January 31, 2005, 02:13:59 PM »
I am looking for a scope for my superlight 243. I will use it primarily for deer and coyotes. Weight is a serious consideration hence the name superlight.  All of my other rifles where leopold's but I would prefer not spending hundreds of dollars on a rifle that cost me 140.00 also is there any other mount other than a weaver rail that will work on this rifle.
GREAT FORUM!!!!!!!!!! I have never seen so much dedicated to one rifle!

kenscot, many have tried different scope rails but stick with the H&R weaver STYLE rail as opposed to the weaver BRAND. It is by far the best for these guns. As far as lightweight scopes go I'll have to defer to someone else...Good luck....<><....

The weaver type rail is the only mount I've seen. You may be able to have a smith mount a couple standard leupold or burris dovetail bases on the barrel using some of the existing mounting holes and adding a new one or 2. But doing that you are going to limit mounting options due to the short ring span.  Some of the older Bushnell low power variables are light weight, I have a couple 2-8x32 Scopechiefs that are as nice as my Leupold Compact 2-7x28. Other than a fixed power, those are the only light weight scopes I have experience with, but I'm sure there are a few out there.

I don't know about the weight but Midway has three very good scopes on sale now. The 6.5x20 Simmons White Tail classic for 99.00 Great scope. They have the Simmons Aetecs for 129 for the 2.8x10 and for 139 they have the 3x12. The Aetecs are very good scopes and every bit the scope that my Leupolds are. Welcome to the site.
shot placement is everything.

Thanks for the replies, I will check out the simmons. I looked at the bushnell trophy 3x9 today, not bad but a little heavy for my taste does anyone have experience with this line? I'm guessing it's one step up from the banner series.

Graybeard has fully endorsed the Bushnell scopes, so I don't think you could go wrong with any of em. The 3-9x40 Trophy weights 13.2oz. Best price I've seen on it is at The Optic Zone, one of the sponsors here at GBO. For more money the Elite 3200 2-7x32 only weights 12oz and has the Rainguard lense coating.
