i was reading both of your replies to the last post on baits for dirt holes and i have a question.trappnman made mention of catching remaking sets after a catch.i caught my first coyote this weekend using tainted deer meat in a dirt hole.how should i go about remaking a set at the same place?the place i am trapping is 6-8 foot planted pines with large firebreaks cut through them.i usually set my traps just off the firebreaks where i can see trails coming into the breaks.thanks, georgia boy

For myself- if the set is a flat set or typical dirthole- I remake it into a walkthrough set. Do this by scraping the ground duff from the catch into a mound where your backing used to be. Put the trap in thew original bed, and make a smaller mound or dropping pile on the otrher side. Relure the backing mouind at each end. Semi smooth out the "walkthrough area" and leave te rest of the catch circle rough.  I make the ditance between mounds about 12 inches or so.

On stepdown sets- I remake back into the original set. Stepdowns really seem to come alive after a catch or 2.

Keep in mind all my remakes are at staked sets.

Trappnman's remakes where traps were staked sound like good ones.  Personally, I use drag hooks exclusively so any type of set is preserved just as it was for future use.  I'll e-mail you some fox and coyote trapping tips that should be helpful.  Ace

Georgia Boy:  Drop me your e-mail address at lenon@upmail.com and i'll forward those six pages of tips.  I e-mailed you through the forum but I don't know if you received it or not.  It appears the message was sent back to me or to trappnman, i'm confused about how this forum forwarding thing works.  Ace
