219 Zipper Improved vs. 22/30-30 Improved

Juan,

I'm assuming your talkin' Contender here.  Otherwise I would just get a 22-250 or a 220 Swift for the Encore.

I've wondered myself about the same cartridges for the Contender.  Folks have suggested instead considering the 22 Rem. Mag Imp.  Some say that it will reach close to a 22-250 ballistics out of a Contender whereas the other 30-30 based wildcats are limited by the larger size of the case head and the amount of backthrust generated when obtaining the higher velocities.  The smaller diameter of the 22 Rem. Mag. Imp. allows for 55,000 psi in a Contender.  You're at least 10,000 less with the 30-30 based wildcats.

I'm thinking that the .223 is the way to go in the Contender.  Its a factory chambering (though some aren't satisfied with the TC barrel for this one), ammo is cheap, and I don't know how long 22 Rem. Mag brass will be available.

My thoughts.  Let's see what others have to say.

Blessings!

Juan,

I ran across this comment about fireforming the 22/30-30 that you may find interesting.  Please check out this link:
