Small base dies

Any of you 760/7600 owners use small base dies for your reloading? I know my son, High Brass, does.

I've used a RCBS small base .30/06 die for over 30 years.   I first bought it for loading my dad's 760 pump.  I liked it so well I used it for my bolt guns also.  Just last year I noticed that it was putting longitudinal scratches on the cases.  I sent it back to RCBS for repair and they sent me not one, but two, brand-new .30/06 small base dies.  Great customer service.
Another way to skin this cat is to get a 7/8 x 14 socket-head cap screw.  Get a friend with a lathe to bore a hole through it that measures about .467 to .469 inch.   That way you can use it for a small base die for any of the common calibers that share .30/06 head dimensions.  And you won't alter the shoulder or neck dimensions on any of the cases that you size in it.

SB for my .30-06 760

I inherited my Father's Rem. 760, in .30-06 Sprg, and the first thing I purchased was
TCBS SB dies, on the advice of several reloaders.  The rifle shoots 1 MOA, and has
never failed to cycle any of my reloaded ammo.  I had a 7400, in .270 Win, that had
to have ammo sized with SB dies, when the temps got below 20 degrees.  Something
got tight in the gun, and it would occasionally choke on FL sized ammo, where it
never choked on SB sized ammo.  So for all of my auto-loaders, and my one pump
rifle, I use SB dies.

I've never used a small base die for my 742's (3), 760's (2) or my 7600, and I've never had a problem that way.

My new Remington 7400 needs them. It is very accurate, but without small base dies the reliability of reloaded ammo to cycle is variable. My previous 742, 7400 and 760 did not need this type of die. This rifle has a very tight chamber and is very accurate.

I got a set of Hornady full length dies for Christmas. I loaded 20 rounds and they cycle through the chamber ok. Thanks for the input. Dave

Never needed them on the Remingtons but had to use them on the Browning lever guns.
shot placement is everything.
