Wholesale prices for FFL
« on: December 19, 2004, 04:57:56 AM »
There are several guns that I would like to have and I (finally) will be able to make a few purchases each year.  I was just wondering what prices FFL holders receive and if it would be worth the hassel and expense of obtaining my own license.  I bet I could handle enough work from friends and coworkers to make up the cost of the license.  I expect many of you out there have a FFL and could comment.  Please do.

you can't get a new FFL unless you have a "store", or actual business location.

So no more home-based FFL dealers?

RT,

   You can think Bill Clinton and his cronies on that one. My father in-law moved and when he did, had to give up his FFL. Spoiled all my fun :(

Unless something has changed??? THis is off of site below

Quote
The Gun Control Act (18 U.S.C. sec. 923(d)) gives the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firarms the power to regulate those in the business of dealing in firearms. The BATF has determined that there are a lot of things that you can do if you have an FFL, and a lot of things you can't do if you don't have one. Those rules are crystal clear, and include things like receiving guns through the mail and reselling guns and gun parts except under a few exceptions.

So you need the license. This kit shows you how to apply the right way, and ATF will approve an application if the applicant:

Is 21 years or more of age;

Is not prohibited from shipping, transporting, receiving or possessing firearms or ammunition;

Has not willfully violated the GCA [Gun Control Act] or its regulations;

Has not willfully failed to disclose material information or willfully made false statements concerning material facts in connection with his application;

Has premises [which in most cases can be your home] for conducting business or collecting; and,

The applicant certifies that--

(1) the business to be conducted under the license is not prohibited by State or local law in the place where the licensed premise is located;

(2) within 30 days after the application is approved the business will comply with the requirements of State and local law applicable to the conduct of the business;

(3) the business will not be conducted under the license until the requirements of State and local law applicable to the business have been met; and,

(4) the applicant has sent or delivered a form to the chief law enforcement officer where the premises are located notifying the officer that the applicant intends to apply for a license.

(5) secure gun storage or safety devices will be available at any place in which firearms are sold under the license to persons who are not licensees ("secure gun storage or safety" defined in 18 U.S.C. 921 (a) (34) ) .

Yes, there are a lot of rules and regulations you must follow as a dealer. And yes, this kit provides you with shortcuts to the knowledge and tools to do it legally.

Without a little guidance, it is hard to avoid making mistakes. But with the kit, you'll be sure you're not missing an important form, posting, or record keeping requirement. Why take the risk that you might make a mistake, when it's so easy to do it the right way?

My FFL dealer is out of home dealer.  He just got his FFL in early 2004. The only thing as far as I know that he told me was he had to keep business hours of some sort. I think (not sure) he said something about all his firearms have to be secured with alarm system and the ATF can come into his home anytime to do a search(he gave up his privacy when he got the FFL for in his home)for illegal firearms or what not.

BUT this is what I'm told I don't know the LAW.

I do know that I have been doing business with him since he got his license I was the first person to purchase (transfer) a firearm threw him.

Well, I made a little bit of a boo boo. You can operate out of a home as a dealer, but my father in-law told me, he had to do in excess of $10,000 a year to keep it. When he moved though, it was an automatic loss of the FFL. If you can sale $10,000 worth of guns from your home, and like to jump through red tape then go for it. I know a sporting goods store in Cent. AR, that does not carry guns to to a high insurance rate. I don't know if they same holds true for at home business, but that is the reason this particular store is not a FFL dealer.
