Anyone use this sight?

The pic didn't come out (again)

It's the Williams receiver sight 5D 94/36.  I want to use it on my 94 Big Bore 375 but not if I have to drill the receiver.  Any experiences with it?

Can't remember if I have the Williams Fool Proof or 5D on my win 94 (standard) - probably the FP.  But I like it fine and my rifle was pre drilled and threaded to take either sight - or Lymans too for that matter.  Isn't your rifle- sight ready?  I'm not real familiar with the big bores.

I believe I have a 5D on one of my guns - maybe my Marlin 39A.  Anyway they don't quite have all the refinements of the FP but they are plenty serviceable.

just ran into this problem with my .356 big bore. You need to get the one that is for the big bore. The big bores have the thicker reciever. Only problem is you have to step up to the one with the click adjustments. It costs a little more but its nice if your playing with different loads in your gun.

A receiver sight is great on a lever action, especially if you are over the half-century mark. I have Williams sights on all my lever actions that will take one, and the others will go to the gunsmith to be drilled for one.  Unless you have a gun that has significant current collector valus, I would not worry about having a gun drilled and tapped, but have it done by someone who has experience at it. :D

My 2004 Williams catalog does not show the 5D as being available for the Big Bore 94.  However, the Foolproof is.  If you have side eject it is the model FP-94BBSE, and if it is top eject it uses model FP-94/375.  The catalog indicates that the rifle should already be drilled & tapped for the appropriate sight.

You are correct and it does take the 94/375 model FP.  The receiver IS tapped on the side, I called Williams to confirm where the holes needed to be.

Well I ordered this sight today, Williams FP-94/375 Receiver Peep Sight, so in a few days I should have a nice setup for the BB.

a lot of people that i know who use the open sights, really dislike the bead front sight... it tends to deflect light in all directions making the front sight seem larger than it really is and depending on the angle of the light can shift the poi.

I personally use a scope on my 94AE but, If I were to replace the sights the Williams FP is the way to go, and this sight for the front post replacement.

also its available in 3 different hights and it will slip fit right into the dovetail on the factory ramp.

Thanks.  My front sight has a hood over it so light deflection doesn't YET seem to be a problem, but I haven't used it much to tell for sure.

Will look into the front replacement though.
