I don't have one of these rifles, but a gun shop that I have been to has them. I asked about them when I saw them and the owner had very high remarks about these rifles. It seems to me that not to long ago one of the gun magazines did a write up on these, but which one it is I can not say.

I have the 16" 7.62X39 model.  I like it a lot.  It NEVER jams.  It has its own magazines, and if you want to use a regular AK mag, you have to modify it to fit.

Its a very good durable dependable rifle.

I also got a Saiga scope mount from CDNN for mine, DO NOT GET ONE!!  It uses the side mount that is attached to the reciever, and even when I spend a lot of time fitting it on, it pops off with recoil after 5 or 6 shots.  I might drill and tap some hole in mine so I can actually screw it on, but I might just throw it out too.

the rifle doesnt really need a scope.  I get 2 to 3 inch groups with iron sights at 100 yards with Wolf ammo.

I had a Saiga in .223 and it never jammed except when I tried Silver Bear Hollow point ammo. This thing is a Kalishnikov, jamming is rarely a problem, but twice I had guys shooting AR15s jam, both were shooting beside me.

I just a couple of 1.25" groups at 100 yards and one good grouping at 200 yards, but I found this rifle very difficult to shoot accurately. That may have been because I had a tendency to get the barrel warm.

Would use it for plinking or home defense.

I just picked up a saiga in 308 with a 16" barrel and its awesome it spits out 308 rounds faster than any rifle I've ever seen and accurate too.  Its the same as an AK47 in a sporter stock that shoots 308.  Its the same size as my paratrooper sks.  I heard on another forum from a guy who has both saiga in 308 a 16" & 22" and he said the accuracy is the same so since the equal I chose the 16" barrel.  I'm very impressed with this rifle. Now I'm waiting to get a saiga in 30-06 and 270win. next but they won't be here until the spring of 05.  Its very hard to get a saiga rifle here because there flying off my dealers rack so fast.  It took me a few weeks of waiting for mine.  I just moly'ed up the reciever, gas system and trigger and its as smooth as silk now.   The AK47 design is the best semi auto design there ever was made lets face it and nothing comes close to in relaibility or dependability.  I also think nothing compares in the price range too.  I may get one in .223 soon too while i'm waiting for the other ones to get here.                                                    BigBill

I broke open my piggy bank again and went back to my local dealer to look at saiga's again.  These guns are flying off his racks so fast its hard to know what will be there when i go.  I went there to get a saiga in .223 but i found another saiga 308 w/22" barrel so i got that one.  I plan on getting the one in .223 too.  :D                               BigBill

No other semi-auto can match the russian quality of a Saiga (ak47) with its chromed lined barrel and gas system so it can digest any brand of ammo too. Plus I've carried heavy boat anchor american made rifles in the woods for many years and this light weight saiga sporter that spits out 308 faster than any gun i've ever owned sure gets my vote.

This is why Remington is buying into them now because the russian company "EAA CORP IZHMASH SAIGA" is going to be the wave of the future to the gun market here just wait till it catches on.  There shotguns are awesome too you just can't beat or compete the AK design no matter how you look at it.
