vanguard advice
« on: November 15, 2004, 02:09:39 AM »
I sighted in my vanguard .300 win. mag this weekend.  This rifle is incredible.  My 3 shot groups w/ 200 grain nosler partition hovered around 1".  Then I shot a 100 yd. 3 shot group offhand and it ran 3''.
I currently have a nikon monarch 3-9, but I want a more powerful scope.  Any suggestions in the 4-12 power range? I have about a $300 price limit.
Also I was wondering if anyone makes a drop in wood or laminated stock for vanguards.
thanks

Boyd makes a drop in laminated stock for them.

My advice to you if the gun is for hunting is to leave the scope you have on it alone. You already have the most appropriate scope for hunting use. There is no valid reason to have more than a 3-9 on a hunting rifle. While I'm not personally fond of the Nikon scopes most folks who use them rate them especially the Monarh line very highly. The only thing you need to do is practice and learn the rifle and it's capabilites and yours as well. I do agree with you on the laminated stock and may very well add one to mine chambered to .257 Whby. Mag.
