I have a G2 in .45-70 with a 23" barrel. I love the feel and light weight of the gun. I have shot only a bison with a factory Remington 405 grain load. It worked well. For me, I have no reason to need anything hotter than trapdoor pressure which is why I like the G2. If, on the other hand you need hot loads, go with the Encore. I think both are superb rifles. It is a trade-off...hot loads or light weight.
As for recoil, it is not bad at all. If you are recoil shy, I think hot loads through the Encore will be worse than trapdoor loads through the G2. It sounds to me like the G2 will suit you better. What are you hunting this winter?
One mistake I made was ordering Leupold base and rings for the G2. Upon mounting the scope, I found that I could not get enough eye relief. These particular mounts must have been for a G2 handgun setup. I think a weaver type mount would work better. I am curious to hear what you decide to do. Good luck.
