PUMA 92.454
« on: November 15, 2004, 02:32:38 PM »
Just got a used Puma 92 Stainless Steel in .454.  I am a big fan of the .454, and think that it is one of the most versatile cartridges as long as you reload.  I shoot a FA 4 3/4 inch gun, and have taken several deer with it.  I had to give the Puma a try.  Real cool gun, seems tough as nails. The sights leave alot to be desired, and the rubber buttplate looks real cheap, but other than that it is pretty slick.  I just popped a brass bead on the front (which is shorter), and changed out the rear with a Ruger rear sight(will probably order a buckhorn and a real fine bead).  I am pleased with my first groups at 50 and 100 with the original sights and will give the new ones a try tomorrow.  We have no Elephants, Grizzlies, or maneating Hippos in Georgia (not around Tallapoosa anyway), and I normally shoot a 300 gr. bullet at 1300 in my FA.  Plenty for anything 'round here, and they don't go far.  I shot a doe last Saturday afternoon with my FA that just jumped up, clicked her heels, ran 50 yds., and jumped into the back of my truck.  All true except the truck part.  Oh, the reason I dialed in, does anybody make a Stainless Saddle Ring for the Rossi?  I want one.
