300 H&H ?
« Reply #30 on: November 02, 2004, 09:24:14 AM »
I'll have to agree with Kutenay about the accuracy of these rifles.  My '57 vintage M70 300 H&H will shoot in the .3's with factory 180gr Failsafes.  This one has the factory checkered metal butt plate.  There is something about these rifles that just "feels right".  Used it to take kudu and springbok this past September.

VFR, man, I hope my '57 vintage .300H&H shoots half as well as yours! I've got the remaing 16 Winchester 180gr Silvertips my F-I-L got along with the rifle, which I'll shoot up first, then I'll start working up some handloads. I don't know how you guys can afford to shoot factory loads. The last .300H&H factory stuff I saw was nearly $40.00 a box...ouch! I just ordered a set of dies and bunch of new brass, which should be here the first part of next week, then I'll start working up some loads.

My dad gave me his 1956 vintage Model 70 .270 last year and it shoots like a house-a-fire. I hope the .300H&H does as well. My dad's rifle has had the stock refinished, a pad added, and the rear sight and front hood are missing, so it's lost some collector value, but is priceless to me.

Any of you care to share your pet loads for the .300H&H, especially those with model 70's?

Not the greatest picture, but the top rifle is my .300H&H and the bottom is my .270 Winchester.

Take care.
