Ponds??????
« on: October 25, 2004, 03:03:00 PM »
Large Farm Pond - 19(+/-) surface acres
Water temp. - low 60's
Air temp. - high 60's
Water visibility - 6 - 8 feet
Structures - tules, trees(in & out of the water), brush, rocks, coontail grass
Water depth - shallow flats out to 50 feet at the dam
The pond contains - crawdads, bluegills, crappie, loads of Mississippi Silversides(large minnows up to 8")

Before the weather turned I was having a ball catching Largemouth Bass up to 6 lbs. on buzzbaits, spinnerbaits, Slug-Go's, Rat-L-Trap's and shallow crankbaits(Spence Scout, 1-Minus series) but now it's like there is no Bass left in the pond.  Any suggestions?  How would you fish this pond and with what?  Lawdog

I would work the shallows with a Zoom trick worm in bubblegum with out any weight just work it really slow. Then go get a bunch of different color worms and just keep changing them till you find what they like. Also try Texas rigged worm with enough weight to put it on the bottom in the shallow water.
Then in the grass I would start out with a green scumfrog then switch to a white one. Just let the frog set a few a bit before you retrieve it.
Then I would breakout my red/black roostertail.
I fish with three poles all rigged up with something different because Iam really slow at tying knots.
With the temp drop the bass are going to slow down and are not going to chase lures that are going real fast.
These seem to work really good in my lake its about 7 acres, 35 foot at the deepest point with a lot of grass around the edges and underwater trees.
good luck
Ron
