Anybody here got a CZ 712?
« on: October 26, 2004, 09:16:43 AM »
For some reason I've gotten then itch to add other semi-auto shotgun to my arsenal.  I've got a Browning A5 already but it doesn't hold as tight of a pattern as I'd like.  I had thought about getting another barrel for it, but the prices are pretty high and I'd rather not take such a nice gun out in the field much anyways.   Most of my hunting is done with an 870 Express.  Patterns like a dream, shoulders well, and is perfectly reliable.  Sometimes though, I'd just like to have an auto-loader available to take out when I'm in the mood for that.  So, I started looking around.  I'd like to not spend a whole lot of money here if possible (though I'd like to get a new gun rather than used.  I've had really bad luck with used guns and besides I kinda like knowing where each and every scratch and nick came from :)).  I'd like something with a wood stock (doesn't have to be fancy walnut or anything, just wooden).  It needs to shoot 3" (nearly everything does now).  I don't need it to be able to shoot 3.5" (I've got a Charles Daly pump for the rare occasion I might need those).  Barrel should be 28".

As for uses, I'll be using it mostly for deer with 00 buckshot and waterfowl.  No trap or target shooting.

Now, I have eliminated the Charles Daly's from consideration.  I've heard a lot of horror stories about their semi-autos.  For cheaper autos, it looks like I'm left with a Franchi 612 (though it's pushing it cost-wise), a Baikal MP153, and the CZ 712.   Out of these, I'm leaning mostly towards the CZ 712.  The price is pretty good at around $300, and it  has gotten pretty good reviews.  I just want to make sure there aren't any show stoppers before putting down the cash for one.

HEY
i own a cz 712 in 26in barrel
you will not be dissapointed in this gun at all
i shoot skeet and sporting clays and a little upland hunting and i have to say this shotgun fits me great right out of the box  it swings well
and shoulders well   and is a dream to shoot
i use carlson sporting clays extended chokes and they have improved the pattern of this gun but ive heard the stock ones are fine
these guns come with a 5 yr warranty
the only thing ive heard is that they wont cycle the low base winchester
2-3/4 shells   i have not verified this in my gun i mostly shoot fiocchi or federal game shok  my gun has a little over 200 rds thru it so far and it has never missed a beat  always ejected and fed properly
one thing i found on mine cz is that after a day of shooting it gets pretty dirty inside the gas piston and  springs especially other than that
just keep it clean and you will have a great semi auto that will shoot
where you point it and function without fail    more than i can say for the mossy 935  i shot one at the range the other day and it fte about 4 out of 15 shells
the cz will be a great inexpensive semi auto
