Broken bolt shroud on Tikka T3
« on: October 24, 2004, 06:31:23 AM »
Was out hunting in the rain yesterday.  When I got home, I stripped my Tikka T3 lite 270Win to dry it out.  When I was wiping the bolt down, noticed that the shroud is cracked almost completely thru.  Removed it, but now I have to wait until Monday to order a replacement.  This was my first hunt with this rifle, it's just had range time up til now......

I hope Beretta has one in stock that they can priority mail to me, and I hope it's covered under warranty, or least isn't really expensive.  Based on the price of their magazines, it could be costly....
Regards,

Tom

Wow, what a bummer.  I have a Tikka and know several guys that have been using them for several years and never heard of any problems with them.  Let us know what response you get.

Well, I just got off the phone with the Beretta sevice rep, and they are sending out one for free.  I'll let you all know when it arrives......

So far, so good, on the service....

Tom

That's the only thing that bothers me on the Tikkas. Plastic bolt shroud and trigger guard. I can deal with the plastic magazine.

Who will be first to produce aftermarket parts in steel? Sounds like a market to me.

I think the polymer stuff is the thing of the future . . . look at Glocks etc...Admittedly, in rifles, I would also prefer all steel.  But I have never heard of a problem with the Tikka set up til now.  I wonder what they would say would be the possible causes of something like this?

I don't know - I am planning on mailing in the broken one after the new one gets here.  It may have been a flawed part out of the mold.  I can't see anything obviously wrong with it.  I will try to post a picture or two, if I can....

Tom
