BAD OUTFITTER DONT GO
« Reply #60 on: October 20, 2004, 03:38:32 AM »
Wow, what a long topic. Due to the game being represented on that particular hunt, the fee involved, and the area he was hunting the hunter should have known he was hunting private stock. Since when do WILD deer, buffalo, and elk still roam free especially in enough numbers to charge nearly $9,000 fee. Just a little bit of checking would have turned up a great deal, despite what this show host was advertising. If I was a complete Newbie to hunting and Markc was to invite me to hunt elk in east Texas and told me they were free ranging I would at least go to Texas Mammals online to see if their range covered the geographical area we would be hunting. If not.........then something is up. And the other side of the issue, it the animal can be legally harvested, in enclosure or not, if I wanted the meat then I would take it.

I didn't mean to quote or missquote Mark, I just made a general statement with what Graybeard was refering too.  It was not in quotes, it was just a comment.

I think wild acting has a lot to do with hunting pressure.   I was on a free ranging deer hunt last weekend.   The deer had not been hunted yet, its a well managed ranch.   I could have shot 8 pters and a 12 pointer with a pistol easily.   I still call it hunting, its just that the animals are living in a low pressure situation and haven't been hunted for nearly a year now.

I'll get a picture of them and post it, you can see how close and comfortable they were.   I think it was a great ranch.  I'm not going to complain and say they have tame animals, reqruit the humane society to shut them down, etc.   What an off base reaction that would be to me!

Its not a bad outfitter, in my mind.
