remington 700 adl synthetic
« on: October 23, 2004, 04:40:45 AM »
hey guys
i posted a few weeks ago about a budget bolt action for my friends christmas gift  the budget was $400
i have shopped pretty hard and come across a new in box 700 adl synthetic in .270  that is in the price range  my other consideration was the weatherby vanguard  i feel that those two rifles will fit the bill for our budget and the adl is slightly cheaper but are they a good accurate
hunting rifle??  the only remington deer rifle i have ever owned is the 710
which didnt meet my expectations so i sold it to the first guy interrested!!
hence the reason i now have two tikka t3 s in my safe
is the adl a good gun?? will it give years of accurate service with proper care?? any opinions would be great

The ADL is a cheaper version of the BDl which are simply variants of the M700..  They are basically the same rifle with the main cost difference being the magazine and stock differences..  The ADL's also (of late) seem to be finished to a lower standard as far as polish goes.  They should basically function the same.  The Vanguard is a Howa 1500 and has been made by them for years, as were the MkV's until a few years ago..  The same basic rifle was sold by S&W and others..  They are usually well finished in the Vanguard version at least and shoot well.  Either would make a good choice although I prefer wood stocks..  Pick whichever one feels the best to you..  I am unsure of the version of the Vanguard you are looking at but the reminton plastic stocks are pretty flimsy and most end up being replaced..sooner rather than later.  The Vanguards once were all made with wood stocks but as of now I don't know,..  good luck!

It looked to me that Remington uses differant bolt configerations in there ADL and BDL.

To elaborate on Dad's comment, same jeweled bolt is used in the wood stocked ADL as in the BDL. In the syn stocked ADL, a more utilitarian bolt is used.

The Wal Mart stores have in some areas been giving away Vanguards for $250 each!      The bluing is excellent, the trigger is semi-adjustable, the Butler Creek stock is much better (synthetic) than the Remington ADL syn'.    And I am a big Remington fan, having tuned these rifles for my friend and his nephews.

The Remington trigger is adjustable per: www.centerfirecentral.com.    The $250 price for a Vanguard is a Steal, however.    For the price difference I'd get the Vanguard.

SS'

ps: In some instances, 'tuning' a Remington Model 700 has consisted in also taking the front-to-rear play out of the action in the stock before tightening down the screws.   I do this with stainless steel shim stock.   When my buddy puts bullets 'on top of each other' with one of them I am satisfied that the Remingtons are Very Accurate.
Yet a little while and the wicked man shall be no more.   Though you mark his place he will not be there.   Ps. 37.
