savage 311a??
« on: October 12, 2004, 08:41:28 PM »
I have in my possession a savage 311a shotgun, a possible acquizition in a trade...anyway I have looked it over and can find no indication on the chokes of each barrel?? Is there a secret to this, or did they not mark them? If they did not mark them, what is the easiest way to find out the choke? I have found out that if there is no serial ## on the gun is was made between 1948 and 1968-correct? This one is without a serial##...

also, is the fore end screw supposed to screw all the way to the barrel???

Thanks

Dave

lubbockdave, a general rule with the 311 is the that the .410 choke is full and full. 12, 16, and 20 gauge 26" barells are imp. cyl. and modified. 28" and 30" are modified and full, but I think some of the 30 inchers might be full and full.
I don't know about the 311A, but on the 311H I own, the screw should definatly not touch. Your right about the serial #, all guns after 1968 will have one.

ramrod,

thank you for the reply-from the info I have gathered and based on the info you have provided I believe the chokes to be mod and full. Also, you are correct, the screw is not supposed to reach the barrel.

Mine is a 20 gauge with 28 inch barrels...

Thanks again

Dave
