A good thing to do first is go on to the SC game commission web site and look at the rules and stuff like that.

What part of SC are you heading to?  I lived in Williamsburg Co for a couple years and hunted through out most of the low country.  I may be able to point you to some good areas if you movin to an area close to where I was.

I did quite a bit of work in the Columbia area but never hunted around there.  I have friends that hunted Manchester State Forest which would be pretty close.  The SC DNR has pretty good maps they put out of all the public lands.  I think they can be downloaded on their web site or requested by mail as well.

I don't know how much of a change the hunting style would be from FL to SC but when I moved to SC it was a huge change for me.  I grew up in the North East hunting deer in woodlots from treestands.  Then I moved to SC where most people run deer with dogs (much like I used to rabbit hunt).  They shoot deer as they run across roads (its legal as long as you have permission to hunt both sides of the road) etc.  They also hunt from stands but its usually on leased property which is common there as well.  In some areas its hard to find good private land to hunt because the clubs lease a lot of it.  The season runs from Aug 15 to Dec 31 and you can shoot 2 deer a day 7 days a week.  On state lands there are designated dog days (can only hunt with dogs) and still hunt only days (can't use dogs).  No matter when your hunting there will be dogs running deer.  Many dogs get left in the woods during a hunt.  I have returned dogs on numerous occasions, but most folks only put tags on their best dogs so you'll run across hundreds of dogs with no way of contacting the owner.  It was quite a bit different than what I was used to.
