From what I can remember, Herter's used the BSA Monarch action and the Interarms Mauser action. I believe the BSA had the U and the Mauser had the J model prefix in the catalog. You were able to by complete rifles or barreled actions or just the action. The prices were very reasonable and the quality was second to no one. Their stocks were also among the best available at the time. They offered just about every type and grade of wood known to man from rough blank to fully finished and checkered.Too bad a lot of "experts" felt that the name "Herters" stamped on the products made them less than desirable when they were as good if not better than a lot of name brands.
