bullet weight in the hornet
« on: September 18, 2004, 12:22:35 PM »
well i got my hornet barrel today got the dies yesterday and i got a friend giving my brass tomorrow and i'm going to buy a lb of lil gun monday so i'm all set except i don't got any bullets. so i would like to know what has worked the best for you guys in the past ? i'll mostly be using this for punching wholes in targets and airing out pop cans and maybe a groundhog or two inside of 200 yards. i was kinda leaning toward the 50 grain hornady V-max. i know the wind is the hornet worse enemy so i was kinda thinking heavy. i know the hornet is more a 40 or 45 grain bullet gun , but i don't know. or should i try a lighter maybe flat based bullet? i guess i can deal with fighting the wind i mostly just looking for the tightest group. give me some feedback hornet fans. thanks a bunch.

My Hornet likes the 40 gr V-Max with 13.5 gr Lil'Gun, CCI 400, loaded to 1.91" OAL in Rem brass.  The heavier bullets are listed for the K-Hornet, but don't seem to be the best for a standard Hornet.  I haven't tried anything over 46 gr, but the 40 gr is shooting less than 1" at 100 yards.

I'll agree with Paul. I have tried the 35gr Vmax as wel as the 40 and several others that are cheaper and some that are heavier, and the best performance I've seen out of my Hornet was form the 40gr V-max.
