I can across sit on the internet that sells "sabots" for shooting 22cal bullets in a 30cal.  They even include loading data.

http://www.eabco.com/reload02.html

This would allow you to shoot 22cal varmint loads in your 30-30, .308 or 30-06 instead of buying a new barrel.  Have not tired them since I don't have a 30cal. but the should work. (see my post on .223 Sierra bullets)

In addition they sell an chamber adapter for .308 and 30-06 that allows you to shoot the 7.62x39 round. (see my post on 7.63x39 barrel) Here is the link: http://www.eabco.com/sale8.html  Cheap way to shoot the 7.62x39 in a Handi.

If I had a 30 cal I think I would give these a try.

I've used them, and you ought to see what they do in my .300 Weatherby!
I had to go to Barnes X to keep the slugs together on the way to the target.

smokingjoe5150.

I guess you recommend them then.  I figured that in a 30-30 there would be no problem with the bullet coming apart since you can't get the velocity up that high.  Think I'll look for a good buy on a 30-30 NEF or H&R and start loading some of the 22cal sabot rounds for varmints.  Know of one available (cheap)?

Hey Smokinjoe have you chrono'ed any of those loads in the 300 yet? Looks like you might get close to 5000 fps. with the right load in a 40 gr.   Digger

Haven't  chrono'ed any yet. I use 87.0 H-4895 and the Barnes 53 gn XFB. The data from the sabot site lists 4900 for the 55 gn bullet in the same length barrel, so they should be fairly close. It's great to be able to see the bullet strike thru the scope at 200 yds.
