NEF lost my next purchase

Earlier in the year I was set on sending my receiver in for a

223 barrel
45/70 BC barrel
BC stock and forend

Money and time were not condusive to the purchase then, but now Im ready and surprise, I see the new and improved order sheet. :( ,
Now with the additional 30 bucks for fitting, handling fee, and the BC barrel doesnt come with the Williams/Lyman sights.  The cost is probably 100 bucks higher.  Just on principle alone, I have to flush that idea.  I was looking at about 300 bucks for the merchandise.  IF you have to raise prices, fine, but demand may suffer, but, most of all, HAVE THE BALLS TO INCREASE YOUR ADVERTISED PRICE. Dont hide it in the fine print junk fees.  Chickensh!t business practices will be resisted by me as long as I can.

Getting a winchester coyote in 270 wsm instead.  More money, but more residual value also.  I may reconsider next year, we will see.  Its a shame, I really wanted a 45/70 but the magnitude and manner of cost increase has faded that desire.

While price increases are never fun, at least NEF is up front on where they occur.  Labor is expensive.  Steel in So. Cal has gone up 60% in one year alone so I'm suprised the barrels didn't go up to.

These guns and barrels are still a great buy for the dollar.  I'll not leave them for those costs, but I buy diferent styes of rifles for other reasons as well.

After the 357's come back mine is going back for a 357 ans 30-06 barrel.  Still a lot cheaper then a whole gun.  Plus my safe is running out of room for whole guns.
God, Family, and guns, in that order!

I think the removal of the sights from the replacement barrel was the fatal blow for me.  I probably could have softened up to the price increase eventually.

I just called them and they say the sights ($47) were never included in the 32" 45/70 replacement barrel.  This is not what I was told in Jan 2004.  I have my order form all filled out with part numbers and notes from my conversations with them and I specifically have sights included written down.  I did not make that up, I was told that by customer service.  But, no issue really, they currently dont have the BC stock and forend available.

January price = 305.87
August Price =   375.87

I agree that the price increases are a bit of a shock...and that any price increase is a pain in the wallet...but... considering that every manufacture has had price increases on everything from delivery cost to the electric it takes to run a plant, and when your talking about thousands of dollars in sudden price increases...they do have to make a profit to stay in buisness...these things are to be expected.. and .inflation sucks...and the consumer always pays for it in the end... no matter what... When I talked with them last year about adding a Buff Classic barrel to my 308,they didn't have any in stock...but   I ordered a steel forearm spacer and steel trigger gaurd anyway.....and at that time I was told that the sites weren't included...front or rear...and seeing as though your getting the front site and rear site for $47.00 that isn't too bad a price...granted more than what you were told....but it still is a fair value for what your getting...

I dont know what direction I would have headed if I was told the sights were extra last winter.  I think I will have to re-evaluate the BC stock if or when I decide to persue this.  I'm not sure I want to put another 400 into one receiver.

Maybe I need to just find a BC later on.  With this route Im putting $270 into the 45/70 parts alone, and still only one gun at a time.  I need the stock though, as I have a monte carlo camo laminated currently.

It still burns me to add a line item charge to an advertised price.  Like the $15 oil change ---- plus disposal fee, plus shop towel fee, plus 2 bucks a quart beyond 4 quarts, etc.  Just put the dam $25 sign up and look me in the eye.

I am just about ready to pull the switch on the win coyote though.  Anyone have one?  It will be essentially a target only gun.
