ATV Scope
« on: September 18, 2004, 11:44:56 AM »
Well since I bought a cheap rifle (Handi), I thought I would see if I could find a cheap scope to go with it.  I did a bunch of searching and reading posts and changing my mind.  First one and then another.  I finally got it down to two.  The Simmons ATV and a Bushnell Banner.  I wanted something more than a 3-9x40.  I bid on several on ebay and was just about ready to buy one from Natchez ss, when I won a bid for the Simmons ATV.  Got if for $61 plus shipping.  I had looked at one at Wally world that they wanted $129 for.  It looked pretty good in the store, better than the Banner 6-18x40.  The ATV is made in the Phillipines, along with a bunch of top name scopes also.  The Banner is made in Korea.  I mounted the ATV on my 223 UV and at this point, could not be happier.  It is as clear as any other scope I have and clearer than most.  I had a chance, at the range the other day, to look through a new Leupold of the same power.  My ATV had just as clear optics as the Leupold, I couldn't believe it.  The guy had it mounted on a new stainless 25 WSSM.  I liked it so much I got another one the other night, for my 243,  for $55 plus shipping.  I don't know how they will hold up to something with a bunch of recoil, or in the rain or whatever, but for range work and plinkin it is super.  It is a 4.5-16x40.  This scope is not listed in any of Simmons literature or site.  Chris at SWFA said he could not find any mention of it going back several years in Simmons literature.  Don't know, but there are still a bunch out there for sale.  My new one should be here in 2-3 days and will then mount it on my 243 FN Mauser.  See if I get lucky again.  Also there are some good buys on chronographs on ebay.

Great price!! I paid $81 shipped for mine! Actually it's a 4.5-14x40. It gets great reviews at RFC and several owners have em on centerfire big game rifles, so they do work on rifles with recoil.

Your right it is 4.5-14, I thought that didn't look right when I typed it.
