I noticed that there is a Handi Rifle chambered for 7MM-08 down at the local gun shop. This gun is stamped "Handi Rifle", but it has a nice laminate stock, and a bull barrel. It's brand new in box. The guy wants $269.00 for it. That seems more like a price for an Ultra to me. Does this sound right to you guys?

I would like to get it for my daughters first deer rifle. She's got her hunters safety card now, and is looking forward to hunting with me this year. I'll probalby load for it, and try to load it down to levels that she can shoot with very little recoil.

What is the twist on the 7-08 Handi? What weight bullets does it like? Anyone have any comments?

$269 is the same price I paid converted into Can $. For a beginning shooter I would start with 120gr bullets for deer. They have less recoil and kill deer with no trouble, but the 139gr and 140gr are perhaps the best bullets for the 7mm. Fred M.

I paid $219 for mine. Same thing with the laminate stock. The 7mm-08 is the only NEF I see that comes that way. I looked at that rifle at my local dealer for several weeks before I went back and got it. The 7mm-08 is a great low recoil deer caliber. I tried 139 gr. Horn., 140 gr. Barnes, and 145 gr. Speer Grand Slam. The Barnes shoot the best for me, but I'm still working on the loads. If I remember correctly the twist was 9 1/2-1.

I think if I can get the guy to come down to 219 I will probably get it.

Wlscott, lemme know if you get that for your daughter. I just took off a straight grip wood stock that has been cut to youth length and fitted with a shotgun pad. I have no more use for it and you can have it for shipping costs. I'll throw in a batch of cast bullets for basic familiarity training.

Good for you, btw. We need to put as much effort into raising our girls as our boys.

DJ, I've got three of 'em. The one boy I do have isn't really all that interested in hunting and shooting.......yet. I won't force it on him either. If he starts showing an interest in it, I'll do everything I can to get him squared away. But right now, all three girls are ate up with the hunting bug :lol:

I checked with the guy yesterday to see how much he would come off of the price he had on it. He couldn't find the paper work so I didn't get anywhere. If he can't come off of it enough, I'll probably go to Gun Broker. They've got several Handi's in 7mm-08 right now for considerably less.
