I haven't followed your posts on your Ultra, but if you have not done so, either do yourself or have a trigger job done on it. I have four NEFs and that alone has cut the groups by half or nearly so with every rifle. You may not want to get really light with a hunting rifle, but seeing as the only time the action is in a cocked condition is just before you shoot it, being in the 3 pound range is not a bad thing, just keep your finger off the trigger untill you are ready to shoot. And if you don't shoot, just hold the hammer back, press the trigger and as you let up on the hammer release the trigger and you will be quite safe. Use a FIRED cartridge in the chamber to protect the firing pin in case the hammer were to slip before you release trigger and practice this drill untill you and your son can do it on demand even with gloves on.
